Welcome to the November Foundation Year Agent Newsletter

Dear IES representative,

The end of year is fast approaching and along with it graduation, holidays and preparations for a new group of students in January. 2015 has been one of the most successful years in IES’ history: increasing popularity saw capacity reached in record time; our mid-year intakes surpassed record numbers; and we opened a second campus to deliver IES Foundation Year to even more students.

We are looking to continue our success through to 2016 and several major changes will come into effect from the January intake onwards. Among them: a name change from Standard PLUS to Extended; different program start dates and a change to the way the Express Program is delivered. We have included full details in this newsletter.

In preparation for 2016, our marketing documents have also been updated. We’ve included full details on those for you.

We are pleased to announce we have found a replacement for Danielle Palmer’s Regional Marketing Manager position. Namita Mallya brings extensive experience within the Australian university sector in areas including international recruitment, admissions, engagement and events as well as experience within human resources. We look forward to working with her.

Till next time,

Reid Arkinstall,
Director of Corporate and Client Relations
International Education Services

Program Changes

From January 2016, several changes to the delivery of IES Foundation Year programs will take effect. These changes will improve the method of delivery and reduce some restrictions currently placed on students and teaching staff.

Start Dates and Standard PLUS
In order to reduce the length of holiday periods for students starting IES Foundation Year in second semester, entry points for these programs have changed. New start dates for Semester 2 2016 are:

  • Extended – 27 June 2016
  • Standard – 8 August 2016
  • Express – 24 October 2016

The change of dates will reduce the summer holiday period from two months to two weeks (one week for Express). As part of this, the Standard PLUS will now be called the Extended program.

For more information on 2016 programs including calendars detailing semester start dates and holiday periods, please visit foundationyear.com/ProgramInformation

Express Program
The Express program will move from a two-semester to a three-trimester delivery. Trimester length is nine weeks including an exam period, with a one-week break between each. The change will not affect the overall duration of the Express program.

One elective subject will be taught per trimester while the compulsory AE and Maths will be taught throughout the program.

30954QLD Certificate IV in University Preparation
From 2016, students will no longer automatically be assessed for the nationally recognised Cert IV qualification. This change will have little to no impact on the majority of students, however, will affect those seeking to enter universities other than The University of Queensland. For these students, they may request a competency assessment at completion of foundation.

Competency assessment takes into consideration a student’s academic performance throughout the year and does not require an additional examination or assignment. As is currently the case, if a student is assessed as competent in all five subjects studied, they will receive the 30954QLD Certificate IV in University Preparation. The Cert IV can be used to enter other Australian universities.

Competency assessment will incur an additional fee and may take up to 10 business days from request date to complete.

Enrolments

Agents are reminded all academic results must be certified before being submitted to IES Enrolments. Agency staff must cite the original document, certify with their company’s stamp then sign and date time of certification.

This applies to all scans of academic results for both paper and online applications.

If documentation has not been certified, an application cannot be processed and may cause significant delays to its processing time.

2016 IES Foundation Year brochure

The IES Foundation Year brochure has been completed for 2016. The new brochure details the program changes above and is a great resource for students seeking to enter IES Foundation Year and continue onto UQ.

The brochure is available for order and can also be downloaded from the website or at issuu.com/foundationyear/docs/foundation_year_brochure

2016 IES Agent Training Manual

The updated 2016 IES Agent Training Manual is now available for download on the Agent Resources section of the website. The manual is a comprehensive document detailing IES Foundation Year’s programs and services. Full instructions on how to apply to IES Foundation Year using the online system and via post are also included in the manual.

Agent famil

Over 30 agents visited IES last month to find out more about IES’ programs and services. During their visit, they heard from a panel of speakers, including members of the Students Services and Accommodation team, academic staff and current students.

The event, held in IES’ new world-class campus, provided agents with the latest IES Foundation Year updates in an interesting and engaging format. Agents asked questions of the speakers to find out more about the workings of IES and students’ experiences.

After the panel, agents were treated to lunch at a Brisbane riverside restaurant.

We look forward to meeting more agents in the future and showcasing IES Foundation Year and Brisbane.
